In the culture of Belarus the work of Nikolay Seleschuk is outstanding and original event.

Nikolay Seleschuk was born on the 4th of August 1947 at the village Velikorata of the Brest region. He studied at the Minsk College of Art, and then in 1978 he graduated from the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute. From 1966 he began to take part in numerous art exhibitions, and from the very beginning his works attracted attention not only of spectators but also of specialists by their nonordinariness. His graphical works were always remarkable for virtuosity of the performance technique (whether etching or lithography).

But most of all the master’s talent opened in painting. Exactly thanks to the painting he achieved success and was generally recognized not only in the homeland, in Belarus, but also far beyond its borders. He is a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, he has diploma of the city Athens (Greece), “For creative achievements in the 20th century” (Cambridge, Great Britain, 1992), “The man of the year in the art” (1993) and other.

Original, marked by deep feeling and peculiar beauty painting of Seleschuk excite, enchant and leave an unforgettable impression. In each painting there are fascinating kaleidoscope of metaphors, symbols and types. Painter`s works devoid of prose, because in the process of work he made what come out from his subconsciousness – dream, fantasy, wishes, but for all that all his pictures are penetrated with inner comprehension of his time.

The works of master are kept at the National Museum of Art of Belarus, at the State Tret`akov Gallery in Moscow, at the Museum of Modern Art (Equatorial Guinea), at the gallery Castany (Greece), at the gallery Hagelstam (Finland), at the salon of Steeve Caplyansky (Canada), at the museum Malbork (Poland), at the museum Shlesburg (Germany), at the library of Cyril and Mephody (Bulgary) and in numerous private collections in many countries of the world.

In September 1996 the life of this great Master ends in a tragedy. Arts critics and researchers shall still have to appreciate and determine his place not only in the Belarusian but also in the European culture.
